Group of mountain gorillas

Tanzania & Rwanda Safari on the Serengeti and Gorilla Trekking in the Jungle

Best time to visit: June – September

Best for: Solo Travelers, Couples, and Families

A journey combining two highlights of a memorable African Adventure: The Great Migration on the plains of the Serengeti and the Mountain Gorillas of Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda.

Two countries, two outstanding nature experiences!

What to expect

Travel to a luxury tented safari camp on the Serengeti to witness the Great Migration: the vast and dramatic movement of over 2 million wildebeests and zebra as they follow food and water through the region. Your time at camp will include professionally guided Game drives each day, a visit to a local Masai village, and Sundowner cocktails and delicious meals around the campfire. You also have the option to float over the Serengeti by hot air balloon.

Following your time on the Serengeti, you will fly to Kigali, Rwanda. From Kigali, you will  transfer to a luxury mountain property for a 3 night’s stay. The highlight of your time here will be trekking. Your first trek allows you to stand among the playful Golden Monkeys, a beautiful little creature found only in the high-altitude forests of the Volcanoes National Park. You will spend the morning searching the lush vegetation at the foot of Mount Sabyinyo for one of two habituated groups of golden monkey, one of them a troop of more than 80 members. Spend an enchanted hour watching them leap among the slender shoots of bamboo or tumble among the dense foliage on the forest floor.

Golden monkeys are an endangered species, and Rwanda and Uganda are the only two countries where visitors have the chance of trekking to see them up close.

Your second trek in this area is a showstopper: a magical encounter with the families of mountain gorilla that make the Virunga Mountains their home. Accompanied by an expert ranger, you will explore this scenic landscape, where Dian Fossey carried out her ground-breaking gorilla research.  Viewing groups are limited to 8 people, guaranteeing space and privacy for the gorillas and unimpeded access for you.

A wildlife experience with the magnificent mountain gorilla is like no other. Savor every second as you watch them foraging, playing, teasing each other, eating or slumbering in an uncanny resemblance to ourselves.

When not trekking, you can enjoy private yoga sessions, a cooking lesson and a heavenly massage. It is also possible to have a local seamstress make napkins, tablecloths or shirts, dresses and skirts out of the brightly colored traditional fabrics of the region. A beautiful souvenir to remind you of your time in this exciting country!
