Plan an active yet relaxing journey to this island of adventure and immerse yourself in paradise.
About the Destination
Ambergris Caye is an island rich with cultural history and vibrant natural beauty. The island is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and bordered by the world’s second largest barrier reef. The Belize Barrier Reef is home to a large array of plants and animals, and is one of the most diverse eco-systems of the world. The turquoise water is warm and crystal clear, making it ideal for a variety of water sports including snorkeling, fishing, scuba diving, kayaking and SUP.
The area is also rich in ancient history. Belize is regarded as the heartland of the Maya civilization. Between the periods of 2000 B.C. to about 900 A.D., the Maya built impressive temples, created beautiful art from stone and jade, made astonishing discoveries in mathematics and astronomy, and devised the most sophisticated writing system in the Western Hemisphere.
What to Expect
Your journey includes a variety of active natural adventures and cultural exploration. If you choose to be active, you can enjoy on-site kayaking, SUP and beach biking. If you want to relax, you can choose to lounge by the pool, or beside the crystal clear sea.
Your journey will include a sail by Catamaran to the Hol Chan Marine Reserve where the sea life is spectacular. You will snorkel among an amazing array of colorful tropical fish, as well as rays and turtles.
No trip to this area is complete without a visit to the mainland to explore important Mayan archaeological sites. Ambergris Caye was once a part of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is believed that the Mayans occupied the area over 1500 years ago and dug a narrow channel to separate Ambergris Caye from Mexico. Your journey includes an opportunity to visit and explore Lamanai, which has one of the longest histories of all the Mayan sites.
An excellent addition to this trip would be a visit to the rainforests of mainland Belize.
